I do not find myself in karaoke situations often enough (sadly)- but Islands in the Stream or Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (both allow for dramatic and ridiculous moves and don't have any notes that are hard to hit). I LOVED this post. So true that extremes are tough to answer, taking it down a notch is sooooo much more conducive to chit chat.

Everyone keeps saying they don’t like small talk but you’re totally right, starting more basic leads to that easy chit chat that’s actually more enjoyable. 😊
Bette Davis Eyes is my go-to karaoke song! I also have about 100 more, because I’m serious about karaoke, so this article literally resonates! Also, I agree with everything here. I’m so over these canned questions that feel old, stale, and also….who cares?!
First things first. Ballads are rarely acceptable. There are a few that make it to the approved list OR you literally have an incredible voice. Otherwise—no ballads. Also, songs should be no longer than 2 min and 55 seconds, because at first it’s cute, but then we’re over it. These are just some initial thoughts.
I am in for a collaboration, because I may know a thing or two—I’ve tested many a tune and I may or may not have one a karaoke contest for my stage performance.
Ok now I’ve got a feeling we are going to need a karaoke primer. All the things. Which songs always hit and which ones don’t. How to find a song you’re confident singing (I’m desperately in need of a new one). Stage presence. How to work the crowd. The whole thing! And a playlist!!
